Lessons

Help your students develop critical 21st century skills, define passions, and discover career paths. Utilize standards-aligned resources, designed for grade 6-12, in college access and STEM.

Lessons

STEM

Body Systems and Biomimicry

Build a mechanical arm that mimics a human forelimb and observe the forelimb structure of other animals to see homologies. Students will use this model and adapt it to mimic other forelimbs. They will then explore the field of “biomimicry” and see examples of how nature is being used as an inspiration and template for problem-solving technology.

City Planning for Biodiversity and Our Future

Challenge your students to take on the role of city planner. Explore what biodiversity is and brainstorm about how cities can have an impact on the biodiversity of an area. In this lesson, students will then calculate a biodiversity index and discover why a high biodiversity index is important for an ecosystem.
